With over 30 unique characters living in Stardew Valley, you won't have a problem finding new friends! Each person has their own daily schedule, birthday, unique mini-cutscenes, and new things to say throughout the week and year. Stardew Valley è la storia di Eric Barone, conosciuto come ConcernedApe. Alla fine del 2011, appena laureato in informatica all'Università di Washington a Tacoma, faticava a trovare lavoro. Decise allora di realizzare un piccolo gioco per migliorare le sue capacità di programmazione e arricchire il curriculum.

La scelta del genere fu naturale: Barone era un grande appassionato di Harvest Moon, la serie giapponese di simulazione agricola, e sentiva che mancava una versione moderna capace di catturarne lo spirito. Quello che doveva essere un semplice esercizio crebbe però insieme alle sue competenze, trasformandosi in un progetto enorme.

Barone fece praticamente tutto da solo: programmazione, grafica, musica, scrittura e design. Lavorò al gioco per circa quattro anni e mezzo, spesso per molte ore al giorno, rifacendo più volte grafica e sistemi quando non ne era soddisfatto. L'editore Chucklefish lo affiancò per gli aspetti non legati allo sviluppo, come la comunicazione e la distribuzione.

Stardew Valley uscì su PC il 26 febbraio 2016 e diventò rapidamente un successo enorme, con una comunità affezionatissima. Barone ha continuato ad aggiornarlo gratuitamente per anni, aggiungendo contenuti e la modalità cooperativa, a dimostrazione di quanto una visione personale e paziente possa arrivare lontano.
