How we calculate it
Each value is the 05:00 UTC reading, one a day (the first update completed between 04:45 and 07:59 UTC counts; a later update in the same window only fills in games that were missing; updates at other times do not enter the history), from the Steam Web API (GetNumberOfCurrentPlayers): it is not the peak of the day and can be lower than the real peak. If the reading is missing on a given day, that day stays empty. We do not use historical peaks from other sources.
New records of the week
Criterion: at least 14 readings before the 7-day window, and a margin of at least 5% above the previous high.
Milestones passed
Thresholds: 100,000, 500,000, 1,000,000 concurrent players. “Passed” means that one of our readings reached the threshold, not the actual peak or the exact moment it was crossed. A game can appear under more than one threshold.
Close to their high
Threshold: within 10% of the highest figure recorded by Statcade. A game appears if it has at least two readings and the latest is at least 90% of that high.
