58 million copies and 1,284 players online: public sales and Steam players are two different rankings
Human Fall Flat, on the public list of best-selling games across all platforms, stands at 58 million copies. On October 17, 2026, at 5:22 UTC, there were 1,284 people on its Steam page. Counter-Strike 2, in the same minute, had 568,345, and has no copies figure in the catalog.
Statcade records copies sold when a game appears on Wikipedia's public lists, in millions, and marks the scope in the sales_scope field: “tutte le piattaforme” (all platforms) or “PC”. If the game is not on a list, the field stays empty. The site does not estimate missing copies. Of the 310 Steam games with a player figure, 236 have an empty sales field. The two lists should be read separately: a copy already counted in the multiplatform total remains a copy on that list, and the PC list is a different list.
At the top of the multiplatform list, as recorded in the catalog, are Tetris at 520 million, Minecraft at 425, Grand Theft Auto V at 230, Red Dead Redemption 2 at 87, Wii Sports at 82.9, Mario Kart 8 / Deluxe at 79.99, PUBG at 75 and Terraria at 70. Ninth place, at 65 million, is shared by The Witcher 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Tenth, at 58 million, is shared by Human Fall Flat and Super Mario Bros. The GTA V figure is on the Steam page “Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced”. The Legacy page carries the note “sales counted in Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced”: they are two apps of the same title. The Witcher 3 is on the page “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered”, because title matching treats “Remastered” as a suffix. Skyrim is on the page “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition”, with 23,861 players online that morning; the 2011 app carries the note “sales counted in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition”. Super Mario Bros. is in the catalog without a Steam page. Cyberpunk 2077 is at 40 million on the same list, with 38,439 players online that morning. In its 2025 results, on Statcade's company card, CD Projekt reports 35 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077. These are two sources, with two dates, and this article sets them side by side as they are.
Alongside copies, the same games had these players online. PUBG: 75 million copies, 302,533 people. Terraria: 70 million, 37,813. Red Dead Redemption 2: 87 million, 30,487. Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced: 230 million on the list, 44,155 online. The Witcher 3 on the Remastered page: 65 million, 38,825. Skyrim Special Edition: 65 million, 23,861. Human Fall Flat: 58 million, 1,284. Super Mario Bros., at 58 million, has no Steam player count in this catalog. The two games with the most people in them, in the same hour, have an empty copies field: Counter-Strike 2, 568,345, and Dota 2, 505,317. Both are free.
The PC-only list has a different order. Euro Truck Simulator 2 is at 22 million PC copies and had 16,392 players online that morning. Rust is at 20 million and 64,212 online. Helldivers 2 is at 12.6 million and 41,838. Valheim is at 12 million and 71,911. Half-Life 2 is at 12.3 million and 1,229 online. Valheim, with a lower PC figure than Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Half-Life 2, had more people online than both. Half-Life 2 combines a large historical install base and, in that minute, the presence of a title near the bottom of this ranking.
The two rankings answer different questions. The copies list says how much a game is reported to have sold over the years, on all platforms or on PC only, according to the public lists. Players online say who was on Steam on a Saturday morning, for the games Statcade tracks. A dormant catalog title can be a huge sales success. A free game can be the top game of the day with an empty copies field. For a publisher both readings are needed together. An empty field means the public list used by the site has no figure for that page. The note “sales counted in…” appears when the same Wikipedia title is on two Steam apps, and the figure stays on the page with more players: in the file these are Grand Theft Auto V Legacy, which points to Enhanced, and the 2011 Skyrim, which points to the Special Edition. Different games given the same number of millions by the list each keep their own figure: The Witcher 3 and Skyrim at 65 million, Human Fall Flat and Super Mario Bros. at 58, Stardew Valley at 50 million with 55,181 online, alongside The Sims and Overwatch (2016). The figures quoted here are those on the page of the game named.

The 35 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 are the figure on the CD Projekt card in data/aziende.json (2025 announcement and annual report).
