Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2, new trailers: Dark Link appears and you can play the ocarina for real

Nintendo showed the remake of the 1998 classic, coming on November 5, in an overview trailer and two Japanese commercials: one features Dark Link, never shown before in this version.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Switch 2 remake)

On October 14 Nintendo of America released an almost five-minute overview trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the new version of the Nintendo 64 classic that Nintendo describes as completely reborn for Nintendo Switch 2, the only console it will come out on, on November 5, 2026. The video shows the remade graphics and the new gameplay mechanics.

The most curious new feature concerns the ocarina itself: if you hum a melody Link has learned, or play it on a real instrument, the Switch 2 microphone recognises it and the in-game ocarina responds. The game also introduces the Hall of Fallen Heroes, where statues of defeated monsters let you learn more about them or fight them again. According to Nintendo, the game also offers fully voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue and music performed entirely by a symphony orchestra.

Related services include support for ZELDA NOTES, the Nintendo Switch app service dedicated to the series, and two new Ocarina of Time amiibo coming in 2027 that unlock special masks; amiibo already released for the series will also give useful rewards during the adventure.

On October 16 Nintendo's Japanese YouTube channel then released two 30-second commercials. The first, focused on combat, opens with Ganondorf playing music and moves on to a series of fights; around the middle of the video Link faces Dark Link, his shadow double, shown for the first time in this version. The second focuses on the ocarina, the Master Sword, Zelda and exploring Hyrule. As the press noted, the two videos were not published on Nintendo's international channels.

The remake arrives in the year Nintendo celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first The Legend of Zelda. In Statcade's release calendar it is listed for November 5, 2026.
